KNOWLEDGE

SKILLS

-   The bolded courses are managed and operated by HRE Department.

-   The numbers (1, 2, …, 5) shown in this table correspond to the levels of Bloom’s Taxonomy presented in the following Figure:

 Bloom Tãonomy

3. EDUCATIONAL DURATION: 4 years (8 semesters)

4. TOTAL NUMBER OF CREDITS: 142credits

    HCMUT uses credit formulae to record all types of academic works. The HCMUT bachelor’s degree program of study on a semester calendar requires at least 140 credit hours to be earned by the student. Therefore, it is impossible to determine exactly the study period for completing all courses, but it is estimated nearly 4 years. In the case of Thermal Engineering Program, the total credit hours are 142.

* ADMISSION CRITERIA:

The applicants must satisfy the following basic requirements:

- Passing the national high school examination which is often organized in July every year.

- Attaining the minimum score of related faculty or program published by HCMUT in July-August each year.

- Being the ones who are in the best group in terms of the gained score depending on the quota of each faculty or program.

Note:

     + Based on the corresponding national high school examination, every year in July-August HCMUT publishes its minimum scores for applicants who want to apply to HCMUT. The minimum scores are considered as the first requirement. In principle, at the national high school examination, those who have gained the score higher than or equal to the published minimum score of related faculty or program can apply for HCMUT consideration. Depending on the quota of each faculty or program and depending on the quality of the applicants who have submitted, the benchmark would be later determined. The applicants who have gained the national high school examination score higher than or equal to the benchmark would be recruited.

    + Currently, for new student recruitment, Thermal Engineering Program is firstly merged with Manufacture Program & Mechatronic Program. After two first semesters, students will be regrouped based on their professional expectations. The annual recruitment quota of Thermal Engineering Program is from 80-90 students.

5. TEACHING, LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT METHODS

5.1. Teaching method

Depending on the specific subject, lecturers can suitably combine the following active teaching methods:

- Lecture;

- Photos/Video Clips presentation;

- Question/Answer;

- Group discussion;

- Exercises in class;

- Quizzes;

- Presentation;

- Lab work;

- Home work;

- Projects;

- etc.

5.2. Learning method

Students in Thermal Engineering Program are encouraged to apply the following learning methods:
- Attending offered lecture;

- Participating in active learning activities such as questions & answers, problem-based discussion in group, one-minute writing feedbacks, games, project-based learning, multi-choice questionnaires, etc.

- Doing teamwork activities such as presentations, home works, projects, etc.

- Accessing online materials in order to download lectures, exercises, previous projects and exams, etc.

5.3. Assessment method

- The final score of all courses must include midterm and final examinations which are normally open.
- Besides midterm and final examinations, depending on the course features, the final score may include some more of the following components: in-class activities, experiments, quizzes, home works, presentations, projects, etc.
The component percentages creating the final score are shown in the course syllabus. The assessment method together with teaching/learning methods is considered as the basic means which enable learning outcomes to be achieved.

6. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

In order to be graduated, students must meet the following requirements:
- Being recognized as HCMUT official students;

- Completing the program offered by HCMUT in general and by HRE Department in particular;
